Phoenix is a BIG, handsome
palomino sabino. I almost suspect he's a buckskin sabino...
Phoenix's sire is our big perlino
stallion, Darrah's Handsome Traveler,
who comes from working western bloodlines, Elsie Darrah's breeding
program and the Rise and Shine program. Handsome's sire,
Captain's
Cream Color, was bred by Arrow's Walkers out of two
Calvin Miller bred horses.
Captain's
Cream Color was affectionately nicknamed "Traveler" and
Micki will tell you that he was her heart horse the way that his
half brother, Golden
Gambler, is mine. While in Micki's program, Traveler
left a legacy of naturally gaited, golden walking horses with
stellar dispositions.
Handsome's dam,
Darrah's Ivory
Rose, was my dream mare. I tried to buy her from Micki
when she was two, but she wouldn't sell at the time. When the time
came that Micki was ready to retire, I happily brought Rosie into my
breeding program. She quickly became one of Jarred's favorites due
to her exceptional size, bone and movement. "She's the perfect mare
for producing field trial mounts!" Rosie's dam was the cornerstone
of Elsie's program,
Fireball's
Mountain Maid. Rosie's sire was
Royal Ivory,
perhaps the most well known cremello walking horse stallion of all
time. Elsie wrote of Royal Ivory in her colored stallion review: "Royal
Ivory is my all time favorite cremello stallion and he
is a key player in my breeding program. He has it all: pedigree,
color, gentle disposition, natural walking ability and good
conformation. He will do anything you ask of him. He is an excellent
trail riding horse and is used to pull a horse-drawn hearse in
parades. He is the perfect gentleman as a breeding stallion. His
foals have the same gentle disposition as their sire. If you are
looking to add color, conformation, natural walking ability and
personality to your foals,
Royal Ivory is for you."
His dam,
Sugar is Sweet, is a gentle, smart mare with a great backend and loose way of moving.
She is a maximum sabino over chestnut, which means that she'll
always produce a sabino foal. Bred to tobiano stallions, she
produces wildly marked foals. She is easy to catch and handle. She's
an excellent mother who foals easily, doesn't mind people handling
her foals, and loves and nurtures them. She was broke to ride as a
young horse. She is directly by
The
Skywatch, a champion show horse in his own right, but
also the sire of up and coming Watch It Now. Skywatch was directly
by Pride's
Generator, one of the most influential sires in the
walking horse breed. Gary Edwards said "Prides Generator has done so
much for this industry. He was special in every way. He was
easy-going and nice to work with. When he entered the show ring he
had a presence that will probably never be forgotten. He had every
thing a show horse needed, and he had the proven ability to pass it
along to his colts. There will never be another horse like him."
The success of
Pride's
Generator
was not a mistake, his pedigree was filled with Champions
and World Champions, a fact that reinforces the commitment
to well-bred horse. Generator was line bred
Wilson Allen.
He was by
Pride Of Midnight who produced a legacy of world
champion offspring.
Pride Of Midnight was the product of
twice world grand champion
Midnight Sun and
Pride Of
Stanley, a show mare who won nine Celebration ribbons
herself. Generator's Dam was H.F. Spirits Nell who
was by Spirit Of Midnight.
Spirit Of Midnight was the 1959
Reserve World Grand Champion and tied third in the stake
in 1962 and 1963. Generator was the product of a genuine
commitment to continue improving the breed. Skywatch's
dam, Lady Fame has lines to
Pride of
Midnight HF and
Midnight Mack K.
Sugar's dam, Pusher's Sugar
Booger, was directly by
The Pusher C.G
and out of a
Pride's
Generator daughter. The Pusher is renowned for
producing horses with dramatic, sweeping backends that push like
they should.
