Sire of World Grand Champion WHITE STAR,
PRIDE OF PANOLA, and also
the sire of World Grand Champion GO BOY'S ROYAL HEIR's dam.
Billy
Taylor said Auburn Gray had sold twenty thousand dollars worth of
foals from Maude Gray, dam of Sir MauGray, back in the 30's and 40's
and that was big money back then. He said Sir MauGray was sold in the
30's for eighteen hundred dollars.
According to Billy Taylor on
Walking Horse Trivia "Jack Kinkade told me that he rode him and
that he had a lot of head shake and was smooth as riding in a
Cadillac. He also told me that he was mean as a young horse, but
later in life he was very gentle and easy to handle. He attributed
the mean streak to the way he was treated as a young horse."
Another story shared on Walking Horse Trivia by Carol Lackey:
"According to Jimmy Lackey, Jimmy Holloway started and tried to
break more of Sir Maugray's colts than anyone else. He complained
that the help was always injured from being mauled, thrown, etc.
When Sir Maugray's last owner, Rufus Smith from Vaiden, near
Possumneck, sent a telegram to Jimmy telling him that Sir Maurgray
had passed away that morning Jimmy Holloway replied by telegram
"Thank God!"
