Her breeder was Carl Marcum of Kingsport, Tennessee. His daughter – Gina Marcum Pinney is carrying on his legacy as both a pharmacist and a breeder of Tennessee Walkers and is keeping a stallion that is Jesse’s close kin. She was sold to Darryl Travis in February of 2006. Darryl's farrier, Tom Barnes, fell in love with Jesse. Darryl was a Civil War Reneactor, the Lieutenant of the 1st Maryland Cavalry Company E and Tom became ‘Trooper Barney’. Darryl bought Jesse as a replacement for his aging TW mare ‘Tippey’ (aka Tippey’s Delight). Tom has been her farrier ever since Darryl bought her. Darryl had Jesse from 2/26/2006 through 11/15/2008, when Tom brought his wife Andrea, a trainer and his wife (Ray and Beth Wheeler who have since moved to Aiken, SC) to meet Jesse. Ray assessed her, appreciated her good nature, and we bought her from Darryl and brought her home. Tom and Andrea had some delightful daytime and moonlight trail rides to include spending a wedding anniversary riding all around Gettysburg battlefield with another couple. They went all over the trails, up and down steep hills, through the woods, across streams and such. Then, Andrea started riding her while ponying Ambush – he would be cantering while she was doing her running walk. Then came trail rides with the hunt club and after that she started taking her foxhunting. Jesse loves foxhunting!! She got to lead the second field once. Andrea took her to all of their Marlborough Hunt Club fixtures and also to Joint meets with Potomac, Wicomico, and De La Brooke. She’s extremely easy to ride in the hunt field. Her top speed is absolutely level – you could carry a glass of wine and not spill a drop while carrying on a conversation! Her preferred speed is running walk which she can do all day long. Andrea joined the Eastern Competitive Trail Riding Association and legged her up on 13 mile weekly outings with a seasoned endurance competitor. She participated in the ‘Chesapeake Spring’ 25 mile competitive trail ride at Fair Hill on 4/3/2016. Her score was 95.25 and she is ECTRA #9153. Her significant likes are eating bread, corn husks and dandelions. She likes having her ears groomed and loves having her udder groomed. She will go out for rides by herself, but while she’s out by herself she wants to hurry up and get it over with. She likes to jump in a ring and on the trail, but she doesn’t seek them out (she's never been asked to jump anything more than around two feet high). She will stand to be clipped without sedation and without being tied.
